Breastfeeding: Everything on Exclusive Pumping

Breastfeeding: Exclusive Pumping

Exclusive Pumping or EPing (EP) is where a mom has chosen, not always by choice, to pump milk exclusively for her baby. Many moms chose this option due to latch issues in the beginning or having other difficulties with their babies being unable to nurse for one reason or another. If they could choose, many moms would not be EPers. This decision takes a LOT of dedication and determination.

General Advice
  • Be consistent about pumping times
  • Looking at a picture, video, or smelling an item of baby's will sometimes aid in let-down
  • Relax as much as possible - read, play games, watch tv, etc
  • Hydrate (drink to thirst)

Introducing Your LO to a Bottle

How Much Milk Per Bottle for Baby?
Breastmilk is constantly changing to meet baby's needs, even when baby is not nursing. There is no need to increase the amount of milk given to a baby you exclusive pump for. Use the general guideline of 1-1.5oz per hour since last feeding (so a 3-5oz bottle every 3 hours) when preparing bottles for your LO.
